ARC 1 have been learning about the Hindu festival of colour, Holi. We learnt about some of the traditions and then made our own brightly coloured splatter paintings
This is what Boldon is all about, community coming together to help each other out. Huge thank you to parents and local contractors for all the help over the last week with regards our new reading bus. We have got it moved to its final resting place, we can’t wait to get the kids involved in transforming it.
More exciting times here at West Boldon Primary! We haven’t had a bus driver go rogue and crash into the school field. Stagecoach have very kindly donated a bus that we are going to turn into a lunch time reading/craft area. The children were so excited when they came out at playtime and saw it!
We had a brilliant day out on Wednesday and Class 7 were amazing representatives of our school.
We walked to the metro took the metro (some of us had never been on a metro) and then walked to the old fire station in Sunderland. It’s been turned into a space for drama and theatre.
There we took part in some drama and story telling games and activities before settling down to create a new story. The children had so many awesome ideas and we put them all on a magic interactive wall! Hannah our coach, helped us choose ideas and we created two characters, a setting and the first part of our story.
She then asked us to finished the story! We all worked so hard to write our own endings and they were awesome! As a surprise, there was an illustrator working there and she created an image of our characters 🥰
What a brilliant day out!!
We do playtimes slightly different here at West Boldon Primary! It’s all about fun and the children being children. We ensure that they have the opportunity to engage with each other and learn how to play effectively. This is only the start in our plans to transform our outdoor areas……watch what we have coming soon!
Year 1/2 had the most wonderful, fun-filled day at Beamish today.
As part of their Royal Patrons topic they visited the 1950s town where they took part in a toys workshop and had the chance to play with lots of toys from that era.
They also enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch before a little visit to the old school, where they had a go at using slates to write followed by a quick play of hoop rolling on the yard!
They were also very lucky to be able to ride the tram!
‘TO GIVE, TO HELP, TO BE KIND AND CREATE HAPPINESS’
A new project has been introduced into the school
To Give, To Help, To Be Kind and Create Happiness.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day in school, the Giving Project volunteers kindly made every member of staff, student and volunteer a beautiful Valentine’s card to wish them a ‘ Happy Valentine’s Day’.
Children visited the Word and took part in a workshop to:
- Build programmable models following instructions
- Create programmes to control models.
- Write a program that includes count-controlled loops
- Connect more than one output device
- Explain that a loop can stop when a condition is met, eg number of times, when a button is pressed, or do until … etc
- Predict the functions
- Sequence a series of commands
- Use conditionals to trigger their programming
- Use sensors to initiate or stop programming
- Test and debug the project
Year 4 had a very active day yesterday at Sunderland University. We took part in a multi-skills PE day with some trainee teachers. They had planned some very challenging but fun PE games. A favourite being crab football! The children did very well at all of the activities, showing great perseverance. They represented West Boldon Primary very well and we’re all very taken with the facilities at the university – with lots of the children making plans for their future while we were there!
Year 4 had a great afternoon taking part in the football tournament at Boldon School. Three teams took part and all of the children played to the best of their abilities. Determination, resilience and team work best describe all of the children’s efforts. One team ended the afternoon being awarded medals for winning their league but all of the children were winners to us. Well done Team Westies!
