Well done to all of our amazing stars this week!!
Year 3 enjoyed a fabulous afternoon today. Rob from ZooLab came to visit us as part of our rainforests topic to show us different animals that call the rainforest their home.
We met animals from the forest floor, the understorey, the canopy layer and the emergent layer. The children were so brave and handled all of the animals with great care. They listened very intently to what Rob had to say and asked so many insightful questions!
Mrs Garr even popped in to meet some!
Yesterday, 27th June, our rounders team took part in a rounders competition at Boldon School. Our two teams competed very well and played some great rounders. The children behaved very well and really enjoyed themselves. We eventually finished fourth – a great achievement. Well done everybody.
Today Year 3 went on their trip to the Hindu temple, which was lead by the lovely Kirtida.
We have learnt about Hinduism in the Autumn and now Summer term. Religious Education (RE) makes a major contribution to the education of our children here in West Boldon Primary. It helps pupils develop knowledge and understanding of religion and of the differing religions and non-religious beliefs represented in Great Britain today.
The children were able to show off their Hinduism knowledge so far, ask lots of questions and try on some Hindu clothing- sari, bangles, bindis and turbans. They learnt some dancing, musical instruments (Surbahar) and even how to play the Mridangam.
Year 1 had fun at Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens this week. They had a tour of the zoo looking at all of the different animals, watch the meerkats at feeding time, got to touch a bearded dragon and a cockroach!
We kicked off our second annual Diversity Week this week at West Boldon, celebrating our differences and what makes us all unique and special.

During Diversity Week, children also took part in a variety of PRIDE related activities in school. Year 3 learned all about the Rainbow Flag and the Progress Flag before collaging their own using mosaic squares and tissue paper, and Year 2 did some fantastic, bright, bold and beautiful colouring.
🌈
We ended Diversity Week today by coming to school in bright and colourful clothes. Here are some of our children dressed in their brightest, boldest colours to celebrate our uniqueness and individuality!
Year 3 have been learning about time in maths. They have learnt how to tell the time to o’clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and finally to the minute. They found this quite tricky, so today they made a clock together and used multi-link cubes to represent each of the minutes. Then the teachers changed the clock hands and they had to use all of our time knowledge to tell the time. It was even better learning in the sunshine!
There was a shocking discovery made in the allotment this week. Our caretaker, Brian found a spacecraft that had crash landed!
He asked if the Year 1 children could help him investigate what had happened and if there were any clues.
They became investigators and wrote a police report with facts and predictions about who may have been flying the craft. They will find out next week when they are introduced to our new literacy text.
